Yes! Whilst the system is recording video [in MPEG2 format] you can simultaneously take still 'snapshot' images by simply pressing a button on the DVR control panel.  The images will be stored on the unit in JPEG format and can later be transferred onto a laptop or desktop PC via USB cable.
